  • BS/BA in criminal justice, business administration, facilities management, operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 8 or more years of security industry, law enforcement and/or operations management experience, preferably in an academic, healthcare, or research setting; in lieu of a degree, 10 or more years of experience is required.

  • Experience with security systems administration. Experience working in operations, strong financial planning, and budget development skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced training and education preferred.

  • Experience as a Physical Security Program Manager in a complex environment, preferably in higher education.

  • Deep understanding of security subsystems including IP video, access control management, and security center operations.

  • Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.

  • Must be highly skilled in written and verbal communications and have the ability to work well with clients at all levels.

  • Responsible for the overall health of the FAS Physical Security System including long-term planning and renewal, development and management of budgets, Service Level Agreements, technical and operations guidance for card access/ID programs, CCTV, and alarm systems.

  • Develops and advances comprehensive physical security and emergency management programs for all FAS facilities.

  • Participates in meetings, provides guidance, and reviews security systems for FAS building and Capital Projects. Plans and oversees capital investments in physical security infrastructure.

  • Manages FAS Security Operations Center and works with Facilities Operations and the Securitas team to provide optimal security coverage across the FAS and SEAS portfolio.

  • Works closely with key stakeholders including Harvard College leadership, Harvard University Police Department (HUPD), University Emergency Management Office, and others to plan for and respond to security incidents on campus.

  • Work with OPRP Operations staff to identify security and safety vulnerabilities, propose solutions, and manage physical security enhancements throughout campus.

  • Serve as primary interface with Harvard University Police Department, Cambridge and Boston Police Departments, and other local state and federal law enforcement agencies.

  • Represents FAS on the university’s Physical Security Roadmap Group and ensures compliance with the Physical Security Handbook.

  • Represents FAS on physical security matters and contract negotiations. Manages embedded Siemens Security staff person and

  • Contributes to OT (Operating Technology) discussions related to physical security infrastructure. Represents FAS in HUIT discussions on physical security systems and network security compliance.

  • Serves as project manager for electronic and physical security program and provides subject matter expertise to the department’s capital improvement priorities.

  • Ensures adherence to university guidelines and protocols on the appropriate use of physical security systems, including card access, video cameras, and associated infrastructure.

  • Works with HUPD to ensure FAS alarm systems and accounts are updated and compliant.

The Office of Physical Resources & Planning (OPRP) provides complete and integrated planning and design services, construction management, and building renewal, maintenance, and operations management to maintain the physical resources of the FAS campus.

This position is responsible for the overall security program for over 250 buildings within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS).
